Under the sponsorship of European Commission, the city of Rosario gathered European and Latinamerican participants for a Urb-AL review
In July 2007, the city of Rosario hosted more than 150 participants coming from 90 cities, provincies and regions of different European and Latinamerican countries in order to meet and discuss on "Lessons and experiences of the Urb-AL Programme. The contribution of local and regional policies to social and territorial cohesion", organised by the European Commission with the support of the Rosario Municipality.
Urb-Al has been the European Commission's programme for decentralised cooperation with Latin America, dealing with the main sectors of urban policies. It targeted not only local authorities both from Europe and Latin America, but also other local stakeholders operating in the urban field, its aim being to contribute to the improvement of socioeconomic conditions and life quality of population, as well as to a fair development of urban centres.
This Conference was organised as a forum for reflection on the Urb-AL experience, to debate on the results dissemination and to forecast the continuity of such a programme. It was also a good occasion to launch a discussion on social cohesion policies that should be included in a new European programme for regional cooperation targeting subnational governments.
