The Localization Process Gains Ground in the 2019 United Nations High-Level Political Forum
From the 9th to the 18th of July 2019, the fourth edition of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) took place in New York. All Member States as well as specialized agencies participated in it.
The event is the UN’s central platform for monitoring and reviewing progress in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year’s theme was "Empowering people and ensuring inclusion and equality", and SDG 4 [Quality education], 8 [Decent work and economic growth], 10 [Reduced inequalities], 13 [Climate action], 16 [Peace, justice and strong institutions] and 17 [Partnerships for the goals] were revised.
Within the HLPF’s framework, the Global Taskforce and UCLG organized the Forum of Local and Regional Governments, bringing together representatives of these governments to present local perspectives on the localization of the 2030 Agenda. Following this parallel event, a report has been published based on the contributions of several experts and partners of the UCLG network and on more than 170 responses to the international survey that UCLG has distributed in recent months.
