Meeting of the CIB Working Group: localizing global agendas

From 26 to 28 September was held in Durban (South Africa) the annual meeting of the UCLG Capacity and Institution Building Working Group (CIB). The objective of the meeting was to discuss the implementation of global agendas at the local level (such as 2030 Agenda and the New Urban Agenda) and to define the future of the working group within the framework of the new UCLG structure. Members of the Decentralisation and Local self- Government Committee participated in the meeting.

The CIB Working Group is a technical platform for professionals from local and regional governments and their associations active in the field of capacity building and development cooperation. One of the main objectives of this group is to exchange experiences, professionalize and strengthen the work between local governments and their associations. This year's meeting, the first held in Africa, was organized by the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) and the Durban Municipal Institute of Learning (MILE).

As part of the implementation of the global agendas, which require a more universal approach to sustainable development, members discussed how to integrate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) into their public policies and how to contribute to the reporting process on progress achieved in this implementation at the local level. A number of actions were agreed to be undertaken next year to ensure broad participation of local governments in the implementation and reporting processes.
