The SDG 5 as the central axis of the European Days on Development
On June 5th and 6th, took place in Brussels the European Development Days (EED), the main European forum on international cooperation for development. The topic of this year, "Women and girls at the forefront of sustainable development", aimed to highlight the role of women and the need to guarantee their participation and leadership on an equal footing with men in order to achieve the SDGs.
The meeting was attended by local government organizations such as UCLG, Global Taskforce or PLATFORMA, institutions of which the Barcelona Provincial Council is member, were responsible for defending the role of local and regional governments in the development and implementation of policies aimed to achieve gender equality.
UCLG, UCLG Africa, PLATFORMA, AIMC and CLGF, within the framework of their strategic agreement with the European Union, presented their Global City Council for second consecutive year, in order to show the results obtained on the ground in terms of gender equality. In addition, UCLG took advantage of these days to promote its #BeCounted campaign, which aims to raise awareness and mobilize the international community that the representation of women at the local level is the key to achieve the SDG 5.
