15th Steering Committee of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation
On April 21st and 22nd, took place in Washington the 15th Steering Committee of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC). The meeting, which was held in parallel to those of the World Bank, examined the work strategy for this year, as well as the importance of implementing learning tools that take into account the richness of the networks of cities and their knowledge, around the world.
In this sense, Berry Vrbanovic, Mayor of Kitchener and Treasurer of UCLG, demanded a greater weight of local and regional governments, since the follow-up activities of the alliance still do not include a role for local entities and usually forget to incorporate them into their communication materials. He also called for the recognition and involvement of local and regional governments as full and indispensable partners in the development, implementation, coordination, monitoring and evaluation of development strategies.
Furthermore, the Global Alliance will continue to implement through its GPI14 initiative the role of local and regional governments in relation to the SDGs, committing to a multilevel approach.
