"The global observatories of subnational governments and the implementation of global agendas"

On February 11th, in the framework of the 9th World Urban Forum (WUF) that took place in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), the International Relations Department of the Barcelona Provincial Council organized the networking session: "Global observatories of subnational governments and the implementation of global agendas". For its preparation, it had the collaboration of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), Metropolis, UCLG - Africa, UCLG - ASPAC, International Observatory of Participatory Democracy (IOPD) and the Intendance of Montevideo.

The event involved eight observatories within UCLG and the Global Taskforce as the Global Observatory of Local Democracy and Decentralization (GOLD), the Decentralized Cooperation Observatory (headed by the Barcelona Provincial Council and the city of Montevideo) or the Metropolis Observatory, among others. Moreover, also highlighted the contributions presented by other initiatives such as the Policy Transfer Platform administered in coordination with the City of Berlin, the monitoring and evaluation activities of UCLG Africa in cooperation with Cities Alliance and the website LocalizingtheSDG.org, administrated by UNDP in collaboration with UN-Habitat and UCLG.

It was a unique opportunity to encourage and promote alliances that allow improving the capacities of the governments, cities and subnational territories for the achievement of the Global Agendas.
