METROPOLITAN DAY

From October 1st to 7th will take place the "Metropolitan Day", an initiative jointly launched by the Cities Program of CIPPEC, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Metropolis and Metrohub. The purpose of this proposal is to encourage dialogue between leaders and local authorities to face common challenges and launch joint projects, in a context in which cities are expected to concentrate 60% of the population by 2030.

The event coincides with the anniversary of the Montreal Declaration on Metropolitan Areas, approved on October 7, 2015. To commemorate this anniversary, the host cities will celebrate meetings throughout the week in which local leaders can exchange positions with the metropolitan peer from their neighbouring cities.

This space is a great opportunity to give international visibility to the host cities in the metropolitan global agenda and to strengthen international relations between them. Among the cities that have joined the "Metropolitan Day" are Montevideo, Montreal, Quito, Rosario, El Salvador, Tijuana, Guadalajara and Medellin, among others.
